General Motors: Redefining Today's Manufacturing Technology for Tomorrow’s Customer

Automotive manufacturers continue to face extreme disruption on multiple fronts and time horizons. A global pandemic resulting in component shortages, demand for personalization, the shift to electrification and the resulting race for market share, as well as sustainability expectations, will shape which brands dominate the future and which fade into history.

This webinar will focus on the path General Motors is taking to secure their future, by redefining its manufacturing technology today. This shift involves designing a converged architecture spanning OT and IT systems, driving simplicity and better visibility across operations with a unified technology stack, and a focus on building a digital thread across operations.

The Uncrashable Car

'In a 2020 study conducted by AAA, automotive researchers found that over the course of 4,000 miles of real-world driving, vehicles equipped with active driving assistance systems (ADAS) experienced some type of issue every 8 miles, on average. So while ADAS was a step in the right direction, today’s systems are imperfect and unreliable.

By including lidar into a vehicle's safety system, it surpasses traditional ADAS capabilities. Luminar's lidar provides the vehicle with higher-confidence detection, faster and farther than camera and radar, enabling proactive collision avoidance at much higher speeds. It has the potential to make consumer vehicles uncrashable without having to remove the human driver from the equation.

Join Luminar’s VP of Software, Christoph Schroeder as he dives into a new level of driving enabled by lidar: Proactive SafetyTM.

How to jump start your data driven marketing strategy

Automotive market disrupters have cut out the dealer network and enabled shoppers to choose different types of purchase options such as subscription models that cover everything from maintenance to insurance by mile, placing a huge amount of pressure on traditional dealership model marketing efficacy to engage and delivery new car buyers. But it’s not all doom and gloom. As the economy recovers, a healthy amount of innovation such as electric vehicles and competition with a variety of new services and product offerings including subscription services means the sector is picking up pace; and there is light at the end of the tunnel for the industry. Good news, if OEM marketing departments are going to meet the digital expectations of the new generation of car buyers. So, how can Auto marketers jump start their data driven strategy and drive their customer experience into the new era?

The Evolution of the Automotive Consumer Journey

With a projected 6 million cars being sold online by 2025, how can automotive companies build and scale their own digital presence to delight and retain customers for life? Delivering exceptional personalized digital commerce experiences that provide your customers with the ability to navigate the entire customer journey, from learn to shop, to configure to buy, to search and find, to financing, to ownership, to usership, to customer care, and then finally to trade-in. The challenge is to build and scale omni-channel abilities to optimize lifetime value of each customer for the subscription economy, accommodating vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and digitally connected services. That time is now…

This webcast will discuss the following topics:

  • Ownership to Usership - Customers are shifting away from traditional car ownership (new and used), buying/leasing, OEM/Dealer model to a service-oriented model with mobility services and partial ownership.
  • Digital Customer Experience - The impact of Covid-19 has accelerated the pace in which OEMs/Dealers start embracing digital commerce. OEMs/Dealers are trying to establish direct customer relationships and the digital customer experience is the key differentiator in a market where products become more exchangeable.
  • Market Share & Loyalty - Even after the current crisis abates, the clear trend is towards double-digit growth in online vehicle sales (new and used). Increasingly, customers want to transact digitally. Statistics show that in 2019, only 1% vehicles were purchased online; in 2020 they number grew to 10%; estimates are as high as 60% by 2025. Empowered consumers will choose brands that allow them to purchase and subscribe in ways which suit them.
